Virus caused black screen. help!!!!!!?

ok, my laptop is about a year old and running on vista. i got a virus, so i ran my scans (avg and malware). came back a couple of hours later and my computers off. now when i turn it on, it lets me get to the log in page, and after i log in it goes to a black screen where i can still see and move my curser. tried going into safe mode and it does the same thing. i can pull up the tak manager, but the only options it gives me are log off, switch user (which doesn't work), lock computer, and change pword. i have so many pictures of my 4 month old daughter and others that i can't lose. someone please help me.
