Was he just being polite..?

I emailed my ex a couple of times about my computer (admittedly it was partly as an excuse to speak to him!) he replies each time like giving me advice etc but is he being helful partly because im his ex girlfriend and he obviously really cared about me at one stage? surely since im his ex if he disliked me that much he wouldn't want to help me?! :S (and it was him that finished it with me)
