Are RGP lenses suitable for someone who is sensitive to soft contacts??

I really want to hear from people who switched from soft contacts to RGPs... When I first started wearing contacts I wore lenses that you would keep for a year. I don't know if these are the same as RGPs...they didn't bother my eyes that much, but I guess they became obsolete or something. It was back in the late 1990s. Anyway, I've tried soft lenses on and off for years, and usually my eyes start getting red and feeling uncomfortable within a couple of hours. The redness is really embarring, and the discomfort is of course annoying. So my question is whether RGPs might offer some relief from these problems I'm having with soft contacts. I don't want hypotheses based on what people have heard about RGPs but rather people with first-hand experience of both. THANKS!
